World Economic Forum Recognises 100 Most Promising Technology Pioneers in 2023

The World Economic Forum (WEF) recently announced the 100 most promising Technology Pioneers for the year 2023, with innovations driving progress in sustainability, advanced manufacturing, and inclusive healthcare. The selected start-ups represent 31 countries worldwide.

The Technology Pioneers community, established in 2000, is a vibrant network of innovative tech companies that are shaping the future of industries around the globe. The 2023 cohort has made significant strides in fields like healthcare, renewable energy, and others by utilising cutting-edge technologies.

Among the notable companies, Farmerline from Ghana has developed an end-to-end solution to address agricultural sector challenges by bridging farmers, agribusinesses, and governments. Israeli company Electriq Global is innovating in the renewable energy space by separating hydrogen from water to create a fuel alternative. The U.S. company CarbonCapture is leading the fight against climate change by removing CO2 directly from the atmosphere.

The 2023 cohort exhibits a global footprint, with start-ups from 31 different economies, and about one-third led by female CEOs. The U.S. has the highest representation with 29 companies, followed by China with 12.

The newly selected Technology Pioneers are offering solutions to the world’s most pressing issues. For instance, ClimateAI, based in the U.S., is applying AI to climate risk modeling, while Transmutex from Switzerland is working on a safe, carbon-free nuclear energy system. In healthcare, M20 Genomics from China is leveraging single-cell sequencing technology to enhance disease diagnosis, and Dot from Korea is innovating assistive technologies for the visually impaired and deaf-blind community.

In the advanced manufacturing sector, Boston Materials is creating lightweight, corrosion-resistant materials with energy-diffusion capabilities. Monolith, from the UK, empowers engineering experts to cut product development time by reducing expensive, time-intensive testing.

Joining the ranks of past Technology Pioneers such as Airbnb, Google, and Spotify, the 2023 cohort will participate in Forum events and discussions throughout the year, engaging with public and private sector leaders.

Specifically from the UK, the 2023 Technology Pioneers include Altruistiq, hundo, Monolith AI, Notpla, Panaseer, and Papercup, contributing advancements in areas like sustainable data management, skills learning, AI software, sustainable packaging, cybersecurity, and video localization.

The Technology Pioneers community, a part of the Forum's Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, provides the selected companies a platform to share innovative solutions, thus helping to overcome present challenges and build future resilience.
